The original prison was built in 1748, like a square shaped castle. Why was it built? Buckingham was the original county town. It first had a gaol in the castle and then, when that fell down, in a building near the market-place.
A delightful waymarked riverside walk which has been developed alongside the gentle meandering Great River Ouse and through the heart of Buckingham. It passes through both parkland and along the old railway embankment whilst also offering great views of the town.
